A beautiful resort that was founded over 100 years ago, Megeve sits at 1,100m and is full of Alpine charm with an extensive ski area to boot. The village has a traffic-free centre, and has that winter-wonderland feel with horse-drawn sleighs and traditional chalet architecture. At just over an hour from Geneva Airport, it’s perfect for a short break too.
The skiing is accessible from a main ski lift in the centre of town, and the skiing in Megeve will appeal most to beginners and intermediates, enjoying miles upon miles of cruisey runs. Outside of the peak holiday weeks, the areas is relatively quiet, even on big snowfall days as local powder-hounds tend to hit bigger resorts in the surrounding area.
Other areas are also accessible using the free bus network, and more advanced or expert skiers wanting to go further afield for a day or two, you can also buy a pass to access the skiing in the nearby areas included in the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass, including the nearby Chamonix Valley.
Apres ski in Megeve has always been a more low-key, sophisticated affair than other bigger resorts, although there is now a Folie Douce for those fancying a bigger apres session on the slopes. There are a selection of nice bars in town to grab a vin chaud after a day on the slopes.
