It’s the end of the day and you’re looking for the best bars in Grindelwald, whether for a quick drink on the way home, an evening out or where to party the night away.

Après – straight after skiing

Just finished skiing and fancy a drink? Then have a look at Avocado Bar. Good selection of beers and other drinks with a friendly and lively atmosphere and a fantastic Eiger facing terrace for the warmer days. Live bands can often be found here as well, most likely on a Thursday evening.

The Chuglä Bar is located on the Eigerplatz in front of the tourist office. This clear glass dome, igloo effect, bar is a cool spot to have a drink with amazing Eiger views, especially if the sun is setting in a clear sky.

Espresso Bar – a great place to meet, located on the Main Street in Grindelwald. Daily happy hour between 5 and 7 pm and most Sunday evenings during Winter see live music from 10pm. Sunday evenings also see a special ‘Pizza day’ where pizzas from the Mercato restaurant next door are available for just CHF11.-

Fancy a game of pool? Hotel Alpenblick, a 5 min walk out of town, has a pool table in the bar and is a great place for a beer in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Cheapest beer in town – Eiger + Cafe Lounge in the Sports Centre and overlooking the swimming pool and ice rink offers a large beer for just CHF5.-

Hotel Derby Grindelwald – located right on the train station platform the bar in the Hotel Derby is a convenient meeting point for a quiet beer to discuss the day on the slopes.

Night out

Gepsi Bar – located upstairs in the Hotel Eiger, the Gepsi bar offers a great atmosphere in a very pleasant environment. Specialising in gin and cocktails, they also offer a wide choice of beer and wines as well as bar snacks.

The Challi Bar is underneath the Hotel Kreuz & Post and is a hybrid bar/club offering a lot of live music and a varied selection of drinks.

Mescalero – Grindelwald’s subterranean nightclub is underneath the Hotel Spinne and is a popular place from 11.30pm onwards. Open until 3am this is the place to dance the night away.

  • Don’t worry, everyone has to start at the beginning.

 

Level 2

Level 2 (intermediate beginners)

  • Be able to use the magic carpet and handle tow on the nursery slopes.
  • Some control of speed and direction.

 

Level 3

Level 3 (advanced beginners)

  • Ride all lifts on the nursery and easy slopes.
  • Be able to control speed using turns.

 

Level 4

Level 4 (intermediate)

  • Confident on blue runs, turning comfortably.
  • Skiers should have their skis parallel some of the time.
  • Snowboarders should be confident on both heel and toe side turns.

 

Level 5

Level 5 (intermediate advanced)

  • Confident on red runs when conditions are good.
  • Feel challenged by ice, moguls or deep snow.

 

Level 6

Level 6 (advanced)

  • Confident with red runs in all conditions, get down most black runs.
  • Looking to improve in moguls, off-piste or carving.

 

Level 7

Level 7 (expert)

  • Confident on blacks and be able to safely get down itinerary routes.
  • Working on improving skills and speed in carving, moguls or powder.
  • Be waiting to improve jumps and tricks in the freestyle park.

 

What languages are the lessons taught in?

The main language is English, however if possible we will try to match the instructor to the languages that you speak. Many of our instructors also speak second languages.

Where do groups meet?

All childrens group lessons meet by the TiPi at Kleine Scheidegg, the train station at the top of the mountain.

Important information for parents

Important information about the material to be brought from home, come prepared!

  • Sun cream and lip protector
  • Goggles / glasses that provide adequate UV protection
  • Money for a drink, chocolate etc.
  • Appropriate clothing and gloves
  • Protective helmets
  • Correct fitting skis and boots

Parents must inform the instructor and school prior to any session of any medical conditions or special needs. We do expect any children on any lesson to be able to use the toilet unassisted.
