To get to Wengen, there are numerous options available to you. We explore some of the best options out there!
By Plane
You’re spoilt for choice when flying to Wengen as you can fly to Basel, Zurich, Geneva or even Milan airports as arrival points. To get to resort from here, you can choose to either hire a car or take the excellent Swiss train network up to Wengen.
Wengen and the Jungfrau Region are rare in the skiing world in that the trains bring you directly to resort itself.
By Car
Driving is always a possibility to get to Wengen too. The motorway takes you to the beautiful Interlaken in the valley below (a great place to stop for a break!) and then it is just a 20-minute drive up the hill to beautiful Lauterbrunnen.
At this point, you have to leave your car as Wengen itself is car-free and only accessible by cog railway, with trains leaving every 30 minutes at most times. There is a large multi-storey car park in Lauterbrunnen but we would always recommend reserving your space in advance; especially during the peak season weeks at Christmas / New Year and February.
Snow tyres are heavily recommended in Switzerland during the winter months but are not currently mandatory. However, if you do have an accident without snow tyres you are likely to take the blame in the eyes of the law.
Germany and Austria also have rules requiring snow tyres in Winter so take note if your journey would require passing through either of these countries.
By Train
Let the train take the strain! Why not make your entire journey from the UK by train? London to the Swiss border by train can take as little as 7 hours (https://www.raileurope.com/en/blog/take-the-ski-train-to-the-swiss-alps) and once in resort there is no hassle with parking or driving on potentially slippery roads.
