After a long day on the slopes you will certainly have built up an appetite so where do we recommend you eat out in Grindelwald. Here is our guide to the best restaurants in Grindelwald.
Quick and easy
Located in the sports centre the Eiger + Cafe Lounge offers good quality food at reasonable prices. Typical choices here would be burgers, hot and cold sandwiches or a salad from their excellent salad bar, all washed down with an excellent homemade ice tea or a local beer. Sunday and Thursday evenings are good times to visit as Sunday offers a specially priced burger day and Thursday is salad day with reduced prices on the salad buffet.
Bar food / snacks
Bistro Memory has a varied menu of traditional Swiss classics such as Alpermaccaroni, Rösti, Fondue, as well as more mainstream offerings such as burgers. A nice bustling atmosphere compliments the food. Above in the same building you will find Gepsi bar which offers bar snacks in a very pleasant environment. Thai curries, buffalo balls, flying turkey sandwich and the renowned Eiger fires are the dishes to try here. Special buffalo ball and curry evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively offer even better value.
Swiss Classics
Looking for the best fondue in town? Then look no further than the Hotel Derby and their Cava restaurant. They also offer a more varied and excellent menu upstairs in the main restaurant.
Do you prefer raclette? Then the Hotel Hirschen is for you. Widely recommended as the best raclette in town and ideally located in the middle of town make this is a great choice.
Classic Swiss Menu
Don’t miss a trip to the restaurant of the Hotel Kreuz and Post. Serving locally sourced ingredients where possible, combined to produce local and international specialities of high quality.
Pizza and Pasta
This ski holiday staple can of course also be found in Grindelwald and we have two great recommendations for you. Firstly, have a look at Da Salvi’s an Italian owned and run establishment that offers great pizzas but also a wide range of pasta and meat dishes in a busy and bustling restaurant. A great choice on busy weeks as the restaurant has a lot of covers.
Another great choice is the Mercato restaurant in Hotel Spinne, offering excellent pizzas, pastas and a variety of other dishes.
Something Special
Onkel Tom’s Hutte – a speciality pizza restaurant based in a quaint little chalet that is an absolute must visit on a trip to Grindelwald, as long as you like pizza that is. Exceptionally good pizzas made to a special recipe by the owner and pizza chef, no wonder this is one of, if not the most, recommended restaurant in Grindelwald. Beware though, that it is not possible to book in advance so we recommend to go early or late, especially on a busy week.
The Hotel Glacier is recently renovated and reopened and what a job they have done. The restaurant has wonderful views over the Eiger and offers a fantastic culinary experience. Highly recommended and well worth a visit?
